Why Regular Filter Changes are a Key to a Healthy HVAC System in Florida

Air Filters on your HVAC Unit do a lot of work. They're very integral to the operation of your HVAC Unit. Changing them regularly has it benefits for both you and your HVAC System.

Being one of the easiest parts of the HVAC to swap out, can also make it easy to forget.

Fortunately Most HVAC Systems have sensors that can detect lower than optimal air-flow andnotify you to change or clean your filter.

The Filter helps remove Dust, Allergens, Pollen, Mold Spores, Hair and other particulates out of the air we breath indoors. It also helps keep the components of our HVAC system protected as well from these same airborne contaminates.

However, as they do their jobs, the Air Filters will get clogged. This will eventually cause the HVAC System to work harder, and consume more energy.

Dirty Air filters can cause a number of problems. For instance they can collapse and block Air Handlers or add additional contaminates to air ducts or fan motors. They can also cause serious issues for the state of the HVAC system such as mold or mildew growing in and on the HVAC Unit. They can also restrict air flow, which can lead to Component burnout because the system has to work harder. They can also cause the System to "Freeze Up", having high humidity or even downright wet filters in the system.

Keeping your HVAC System's Air Filter clean and maintained has many benefits. Some are as follows:

  • Enhances energy efficiency
  • Extends the lifespan of the HVAC System
  • Improves indoor air quality
  • Offers Greater comfort

Like all things mechanical, just conducting simple maintenance on the system increases both it's performance and efficiency. It will also increase it's lifespan. And let's face it, Changing the filter is the simplest of maintenance items that can be done on an HVAC unit. Nearly anyone, even children (with supervision) can do it.

Fortunately HVAC Filters are easily obtained. Most Grocery Stores like Publix or Walmart carry common size air filters. Some Condominiums & Apartment Buildings offer Filters for it's residents on a monthly or quarterly basis. Some HVAC systems even have reusable or washable Air filters that require just a gentle rinse from your bath tub or kitchen sink.

It only takes seconds to change out your air filter and keep both your home and your HVAC unit clean and healthy.
